Travel, accommodation & food

Delegates are to make their own transport and accommodation arrangements. A variety of public transport options are available to help you attend the Symposium and its events, and a number of accommodation options are available in close proximity to the Symposium venue.

Students: Find travel and accommodation grant info here.

There are several accommodation options in and around the V&A Waterfront close to the symposium venue. Many other popular options are available in surrounding areas too.

From airport – Uber, Taxify, meter taxis and MyCiTi buses all operate from the airport to the City Centre. To use the network of MyCiti buses you will need a MyCiTi card, which you can purchase at Cape Town International Airpot.

In Cape Town – Uber, Taxify, meter taxis and MyCiti buses all operate within and around Cape Town. MyCiti bus stop 104 is right outside the Two Oceans Aquarium. For delegates making use of cars, we will validate parking for the Portswood Garage only (across the road from the Aquarium).

Parking in the V&A Waterfront

Symposium attendees relying on a personal or hired vehicle for the duration of the event will find the Portswood Parking Garage opposite the Two Oceans Aquarium most convenient. Parking can be paid at the garage, or pre-validated tickets can be purchased from the Symposium for R65 each.

Food & Restaurants

The Symposium will supply tea, coffee and light snacks throughout the days of the event, but encourages attendees to explore the surrounding V&A Waterfront for lunch.

The V&A Waterfront is home to a selection of over 80 restaurants and eateries and a Food Market situated near to the Aquarium.

In keeping with the Aquarium’s sustainability focus, Symposium, attendees are encouraged to consult the WWF SASSI List if selecting seafood, and to avoid single-use plastic shopping bags, cups, straws, cutlery and takeaway containers wherever possible.
